Introduction
Meaningful Empowerment for Change and Poverty Alleviation (MECPA) was established in 2007 as a Not for Profit Organization. MECPA was registered with Lira District Local Government as a CBO and later incorporated as a company without share capital with URSB Reg. Number 80020001496277 as required by the NGO Registration Act and Regulation 2016.
Currently, MECPA is processing a registration Permit with NGO Registration Bureau.




National Networks
MECPA has subscribed to a number of national networks like Uganda Forestry Working Group (UFWG), Environment and Natural Resources Civil Society Organization (ENR-CSO) Network, Renewable Energy Civil Society Organization (RECSO) and Climate Action Network Uganda (CAN-U).
Community Outreach
MECPA’s entry work on Agriculture, environment and natural resources related activities delivers solution in thematic areas of Health Care, Education, Child Right and Protection, Gender, Livelihood, Forestry, Renewable Energy, Climate Change, Wetlands and Environment and Natural Resources Management.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
Currently, MECPA is entrusted to host of the Environment and Natural Resources Civil Society Organization Network and FMNR Network in Northern Uganda that coordinate 15 CSOs in Lango and Acholi sub region.
MECPA support projects that bring together stakeholders and the local community members to collectively generate long term solutions to Environmental problems.

Funding Collaboration Background
With support from UNDP/GEF in 2014/15, MECPA partnered with Straight Talk Foundation/Tree Talk, to support conservation farming... Recently, MECPA implemented a project titled “Farmland Ecosystem Restoration project of Aswa Catchment” targeting Protection of Wetlands, River Banks, Buffer Zones and surrounding communities funded by UNDP/GEF 2019/2021.
Implementing Now: Wetlands Restoration (2023-2025) and Women’s Land Right (2024-2027).
